BCGEU – Equality Committee Member Survey
August 19, 2020
To: All MoveUP Members at BCGEU
Over the last few months, we have witnessed many unfortunate and horrific events stemming from the problem of systemic racism in our communities, country and internationally.
The systemic racism that Black and Indigenous Peoples have endured has highlighted the need for your employer to accelerate their efforts in creating and implementing the new Equity Committee. In accordance with MOA 2 of the UWU collective agreement as stated:
“The Parties agree to establish a Union/BCGEU Committee to develop the principles which shall form the establishment of an Employment Equity Program within BCGEU workplaces. COPE 378 (MoveUP) will be invited to participate in the Committee on an equal basis with the Union and BCGEU.”
The objectives of the Committee will be to suggest methods for:
- Developing a workplace culture that values diversity.
- Developing a workforce that is, at all levels, representative of the diverse membership served.
- Enhancing employment and career opportunities for all groups; and
- Providing harassment-free workplaces.
The Committee will also be responsible to make recommendations to the BCGEU Executives based on issues and concerns coming from our members.
We have put together a brief survey to provide you with an opportunity to give your feedback and suggestions to help us guide our efforts with the employer to ensure additional measures are considered to create a safer and truly inclusive work culture.
