BCGEU – Bargaining Update # 7
November 8, 2021
To: All MoveUP members at BCGEU
We would like to address some of the points that were communicated by both Thom Yachnin and Stephanie Smith on Monday, November 8.
Your union contacted the elected members of your Bargaining Committee at 6:52pm, Friday November 5th via email about the mediation session with Vince Ready scheduled at 8:30am the following day, Saturday November 6th. The committee was unable to attend beyond 12 noon on November 6th because of prior commitments.
Despite the unusual way in which this mediation was scheduled and despite the late notice, the committee participated for as long as we were able to and tried to make progress.
We are all aware of how much time the employer has had to get serious about this. By noon on Saturday nothing substantive had come from the employer that the bargaining committee didn’t already have at the outset of the day.
There had been no movement since LRB mediation had concluded over 2 weeks prior.
There had been no movement following the 96.1% rejection of the employer’s final offer vote.
There had been no movement following receipt of the 72-hour strike notice.
It’s simply insincere for the employer to say that they were there to get a deal when they hadn’t moved an inch halfway through the day.
We look forward to seeing you at tonight’s meeting.
In solidarity,
Your Bargaining Committee:

Doris Stowe, Committee Member
