Meeting Notice

BC Hydro – Follow-up meeting to discuss design work being contracted out

October 8, 2025

To: All MoveUP members at BCH in DDCC positions

As a follow up to our call with members working in DDCC back in June 2025, we will be holding another meeting to discuss our union’s next steps with regards to design work that is being contracted out.

The meeting details are as follows:

Date: Wednesday, October 22, 2025
Time: 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm
Place: Zoom

While Article 24 of your collective agreement permits the employer to contract out work subject to certain conditions, contracting in is prohibited. If the employer attempts to contract in work, that directly puts union jobs – your jobs – at risk and we will not stand for that.

If you spot any examples of contracting in, please let us know right away by emailing bchmail@moveuptogether.ca and include as many details as possible.

What’s the difference between contracting out versus contracting in?

Contracting out refers to work being outsourced to an external organization. Contracting in is when the employer hires a contractor to perform bargaining unit work and treats them as though they are a BC Hydro employee.

Thank you for your ongoing support. We look forward to connecting with you on October 22 to discuss this issue further.

In solidarity,

Mike Novak, Union Representative
Alina Teymory, Union Representative
Richard Van Grol, Union Representative
Paul Voykin, Union Representative
