FortisBC MoveUP Essential Service Levels
October 2, 2025
To: All MoveUP Members at FortisBC and FortisBC-CSC
We write to inform you that on September 29, 2025 your MoveUP Union Representatives met with the company to identify what roles in our bargaining unit provide essential services, and to agree on what service levels would be maintained in the event of a strike or lockout.
With the help of a mediator, we were able to agree on a without-prejudice basis that the following roles and service levels are essential:
Instrumentation and Communications Technologist
Regular hours, taking only emergent calls
Integrity Corrosion Analyst
Regular hours, taking only emergent calls
Corrosion Technologist/Work Leader
Available for call-out only
Gas Control Coordinator
Regular hours
Gas Controller
Three people per 12-hour day shift, 1 person on night shift (24/7 coverage)
SCADA Support Technologist
Regular hours
These roles will be required to report for work to meet the agreed-to service levels even if there is a strike or lockout at their workplaces. The parties have agreed that shifts will be assigned on a rotating basis so that hours are distributed equally among the workers in each role.
Update on the IBEW’s process
IBEW 213 is still in the process of having a Labour Board Vice-Chair decide on essential service levels for two of their positions.
Next steps
As of now, there is no change to the situation between IBEW 213 and FortisBC. IBEW 213’s continued goal is to reach a fair and equitable collective agreement without a labour disruption.
There is no strike imminent. There is no strike or job action currently underway, and there are no picket lines currently in place. Should it be necessary, IBEW will be positioned to serve 72-hour strike notice once the ESO is completed.
Direct Deposit information
We continue to encourage you to register your banking information with us by filling out the Direct Deposit Authorization Form. This will allow our team to have more ability to process your information quicker and avoid any delay in issuing strike pay should job action occur.
We are continuing to update our Frequently Asked Questions page to address more specific issues as they arise. If you have questions not addressed in the FAQ, please reach out to your Job Action Committee (JAC) assigned to your area. (JAC Communication Tree)
Thank you for your patience and continued solidarity.
