The union for Avis Budget Group has issued strike notice. Here’s what to expect.

July 29, 2025

To: All MoveUP Members at Hertz (YVR) and Enterprise

Yesterday, we learned the union for Avis Budget Group workers has issued 72-hour strike notice at Vancouver Airport (YVR) and Victoria Airport (YYJ). Those workers will be able to create a legal picket line as of 12:02 p.m. on Thursday, July 31.

As union members, we will respect the legal picket line of another union if it is set up and it impedes our access to our workplace.

It is not a certainty that Avis Budget Group workers will go out on strike, but we need to be prepared if they do.

Here are some key questions answered.

Where will the picket line be set up?

We will not know that until it happens. You should proceed to work normally unless a picket line blocks your access.

Are we expected to join the picket line?

No. If Avis Budget Group workers set up a picket line that blocks your access to work, we will send you information on where to proceed.

How will we get information from MoveUP?

Our two main methods of communication will be through email and through text messages. It is important that we have your preferred name, active cell phone number, and personal email address accurate. Please log in to your Member Portal account to check that we have your updated information on file.

Only information that you receive directly from us through is considered official.

Will I be punished by my employer if I can’t go to work? Will I get paid if I can’t go to work?

Your collective agreement offers you protection in the event a legal picket line prevents you from getting to work. Additionally, MoveUP will provide picket pay support to you if you are unable to attend work.

If you have further questions or concerns, please contact your job steward. Your job stewards will work with your union representative – Dan Storms – to get answers to your inquiries.

Thank you for your understanding and patience as we deal with this rapidly unfolding situation.

In solidarity,

Christy Slusarenko, Vice-President, Combined Units
Dan Storms, Union Representative
