ICBC – Rodent Prevention at Head Office
June 17, 2025
To: All MoveUP Members at ICBC HO
It has come to our attention that ICBC’s Head Office is experiencing some difficulty with rodents including rats and mice.
To address this, ICBC already has introduced additional pest prevention measures in collaboration with the Joint Occupational Health and Safety (JOHS) Committee and your union. These include workstation inspections and updated expectations around food storage, workspace cleanliness, and in-office practices.
What you need to know and do:
- Remove attractants: Check your workspace for any food, clutter, or potted plants with soil. If possible, please spend a few minutes cleaning at the beginning or towards the end of your shift.
- Avoid eating at your desk if possible: Please use designated kitchen areas or the cafeteria to help prevent crumbs and spills that attract pests if possible.
- Take food home and declutter: All food not stored in the fridge should be taken home. This includes anything consumable such as coffee, tea, gum, and snacks. Please do a “spring cleaning” of your workstation – including drawers, bags, and cubbies. If you need help preparing, reach out to your leader for support and time coding.
- Prepare for inspections from ICBC and JOHS: Workstation inspections will begin in the coming weeks. Starting in July, attractants remaining at workstations may be moved to shared bins if the situation does not improve.
We all share responsibility for maintaining a clean and healthy work environment. On your next in-office day, please follow these guidelines and encourage your colleagues to do the same.
Please reach out to your local JOHS committee members with any questions or concerns.
In solidarity,
Tara Balla, Co-Chair, Joint Health and Safety Committee
