Starlight Casino New Westminster (Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Ltd.) – STRIKE VOTE – NOTICE OF POLL
April 3, 2025
To: All MoveUP members at Starlight Casino NW
Your bargaining committee most recently met in mediation at the Labour Relations Board with your employer on April 2, 2025 and at the end of the day, the parties were still very far apart. You provided a strong mandate on what you need from your employer to ratify your first collective agreement. Your committee has fought hard to achieve several of those items; however, we may likely reach an impasse at mediation on April 14, 2025 on the following key items: ||
- Wages
- Overtime Premium Pay & Shift Premiums
- Protection of bargaining unit members and work, contracting out & severance
- Covid & Other Virus Testing Paid by your Employer
- Hours of work- 10 hour shifts for Permanent Full-Time Members
Your employer has proposed modest wage increases, particularly with the fact that there have been no increases since 2022, in addition to changing the parameters of your current working hours. We view these proposals as unacceptable, as you are responsible for monitoring two sites. We have tabled our proposals on wages and the term of the agreement; however, your employer has responded with an offer of significantly lower wage increases to cover the period of 2023 to 2025. ||
Negotiations are likely to come to a halt and reach an impasse between the parties at our next day of mediation. Your bargaining committee is still committed and prepared to negotiate with your employer if they return to the table with a fair and reasonable offer.
We want to stress that we need solidarity now more than ever. A STRONG & UNITED membership means added pressure on the employer to negotiate a fair first collective agreement.
A membership meeting will be held to discuss the progress of negotiations, the upcoming strike vote and potential job action.
This meeting is extremely important, and we need your support. Please make every effort to attend the meeting and subsequently participate in this vote.
Date: Monday, April 7, 2025
Time: 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Location: Zoom (Register Here)
Following the meeting, a strike vote will take place to determine our collective response to the employer and their unfair wage proposals. This vote is crucial in demonstrating solidarity and support for the bargaining committee as we work to secure a fair deal for you.
A strong strike mandate sends a clear message to the employer that we stand united and they need to come back to the table with an offer that you’ll find agreeable. With your vote, you empower the committee with the leverage needed to achieve the best possible outcome for everyone.
