ICBC – Site Visits in Nanaimo (Licensing Office and Claim Centre) on January 29, 2025
January 28, 2025
To: All MoveUP members at Nanaimo Claim Centre and DLO
On Wednesday, January 29, Dimitri Ossinsky, your newly elected Vice President, and Sara Colliss, your Union Representative, will be visiting ICBC locations in the Nanaimo region.
We will be doing an informal meet-and-greet with our members and looking to recruit more members to become job stewards. Our job stewards occupy the most valuable roles in our union. Stewards provide workplace leadership and information, insight and understanding to the staff and elected representatives at the MoveUP office. They offer support and guidance to their co-workers, keep little problems from becoming big ones, and help make the workplace function smoothly.
Becoming a job steward is a rewarding experience. It’s an opportunity to help and support your colleagues, while learning valuable skills. As a steward you will learn about your and your co-workers’ rights, and how to stand up to make sure members in your workplace are treated fairly. MoveUP offers regular opportunities for training to learn all the skills needed, which include conflict resolution and a deeper understanding of your collective agreement.
Please read our online member guide “What is a Job Steward and How do I Become One?” and consider putting your name forward.
If you are interested in becoming a steward or learning more about the role, please email Vice-President Dimitri Ossinsky at dossinsky@moveuptogether.ca.
In solidarity,
Dimitri Ossinsky, Vice-President, ICBC
Sara Colliss, Union Representative
