To: All MoveUP members at Avis
On October 4th 2017, an overwhelming majority of Avis Shuttlers voted in favor of joining the Union.
I want to personally welcome everyone to your Union, MoveUP and let everyone know that we will all work together to create an excellent working relationship with each other and AVIS.
You now have a stronger voice in the workplace. This is a great step in the right direction to make Avis a better place to work and to join the conversation about your working life and at the bargaining table.
I will be your Union Representative and have already met some of you at the meet and greet last week. I don’t have everyone’s contact information at this time, please provide me with your contact information at mnovak@moveuptogether.ca, so that I can keep you updated.
The next steps in the process are:
1) Have a membership meeting to go over some important parts of your collective agreement and discuss your workplace issues. Stay tuned for a bulletin in the coming days about that important meeting.
2) I have already reached out to the Employer to set a date to negotiate better terms and conditions for Avis shuttlers in a “letter of understanding” to be added to the collective agreement. For your benefit, I hope these meetings will begin soon.
3) We will be setting up a “Transition Committee” to ease you and your coworkers into union membership. This committee will be made up of Shuttlers who are interested in representing their coworkers and working with me to achieve the most we can for the Shuttlers. If you are interested in sitting on this committee, please contact me.
4) Things at work continue as usual until we negotiate improved working conditions for you. If there are any changes, please contact me right away.
Union dues are 1.5% of your gross wages and are tax-deductible. Please note that we will not be collecting any dues until we have finished with negotiations for the Shuttlers.
I am eager to meet each and every one of you and am delighted to represent you.
Whether you were supportive of unionizing or not, we want to welcome everyone to MoveUp and want to let everyone know that moving forward, that it’s important we all work together.
