International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Picket Lines

July 4, 2023

To: All MoveUP Members at Vancouver Shipyards and Seaspan ULC

As you may have seen, there is an active labour dispute between the ILWU and the BC Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA). The ILWU has set up picket lines at a few locations on McKeen Avenue, including at Fibreco. To be clear, there are no employees at Vancouver Shipyards or Seaspan ULC on strike.

I, along with some other Vancouver Shipyards Poly-Party union representatives, attended the picket lines early this morning to ensure that there was clear passage for all members going in to work at Vancouver Shipyards and Seaspan ULC. The ILWU picket lines do not impede on to the road so we don’t anticipate any issues with our members getting to work.

If you are working onsite and encounter a picket line blocking your ability to get to work, please call me or your job steward.

We ask all of our members to show their solidarity and support to the striking ILWU members. Whether it’s honking as you drive by or stopping to talk to those on the line, having the support of union brothers and sisters goes a long way.

In solidarity,

Yudon Garie
Union Representative
