Bargaining

Hastings Entertainment Inc.- Bargaining Update #16 – Hastings refuses to give you a fair wage increase

January 29, 2018

To: All MoveUP Members at Hastings Entertainment

Please post and/or distribute in your workplace.

Your union met with the employer on Friday, January 26, 2018 to resume collective bargaining.

During the meeting, we proposed numerous solutions to the employer. We are disappointed the employer would not consider any of what we had proposed.

Two things were apparent in meeting:

  1. The employer is not prepared to offer any wage increases in the first three years of the agreement.
  2. The employer did not offer any solutions to collective bargaining.

The employer hinted at a potential signing bonus, but never made any offer. Instead, they simply chose to walk away during discussions and leave our office.

Your union will now be forming a strike committee. This committee will be involved in running the strike and coordinating with the picket captains on how we will conduct the strike.

If you are interested in joining the committee, please forward your name to HEIStrike@moveuptogether.ca  for consideration. Once we have the committee in place, we will meet at our offices to discuss our next steps.

Once we have more information, we will communicate with you.

In solidarity,

Brad Bastien, Senior Union Representative
Keith Parkinson, Bargaining Committee Member
Cathy Hirani, Union Representative
