Come cheer on MoveUP’s Dragon Boat Team this weekend (June 22-23)

June 17, 2019

To All MoveUP members at home in the Lower Mainland

MoveUP’s Dragon Boat team, organized by our Human Rights & Multicultural Committee, will be competing at the Concord Pacific Vancouver Dragon Boat Festival this weekend.

The festival runs for three days. Admission is free and, in addition to watching exciting races, there are many musical acts for families to enjoy.

Dragon boating has a long history and is believed to have been started to commemorate the life and death of Qu Yuan, a famous Chinese poet, minister and scholar who lived during the Warring States period in Ancient China.

MoveUP’s Dragon Boat team, comprised of members from many different units of our union, has been training over the past couple of months and is eager to take to the waters to face the hundreds of other teams that come from around the world to compete at this festival.

Visit the Festival website to find schedules and look for the “MoveUP” team which will compete on the Saturday and Sunday.

Competition Dates: June 22-23

Location: False Creek by Science World, Vancouver (near the Stadium-Chinatown SkyTrain Station)

In solidarity,

Christy Slusarenko & Gunter Seifert
