CIATU – Bargaining Update #2

To: All MoveUP members at CIATU


The Union bargaining committee and the Employer have met for collective bargaining at the IUOE  115 offices and the MoveUP Offices in Burnaby on July 12, 2023, August 9, 2023,  and September 28, 2o23 respectively.

The parties have discussed non-monetary items primarily thus far. The parties have signed off proposals on:

  • housekeeping items
  • improved language on
    • management rights
    • the grievance procedure– doubling the time in which to initially file a grievance.

September 28, 2023 signed off proposals:

  • Right of Representation (New)
    • Guaranteed union representation for meetings that are or could become disciplinary, related to medical fitness or medical accommodation, or for bullying and harassment (both complainant and respondent)
  • Bullying and Harassment
  • Statutory Holidays –inclusion of National Day of Truth and Reconciliation
  • Domestic/Sexual Violence Leave
  • Layoff and Recall including improvements in recall qualifications language
  • Workplace Closures (New)
  • Employer obligation to provide safe workplace outside of worksite on employer property

Collective bargaining will reconvene in October once we confirm bargaining dates, and we hope to conclude collective bargaining by the end of October with monetary proposals to be likely discussed at the next session.
