BCFed-Expedited Arbitration – Remote Work Policy Grievance
January 16, 2024
To: All MoveUP members at BC Federation of Labour
We write to provide you with the up-to-date status of our policy grievance on the employer’s implementation of the reduced remote work schedule.
On November 21, 2023, we filed a policy grievance contesting the employer’s interpretation of LOU2 and the reduction of MoveUP members’ remote work arrangements.
The employer declined the grievance on December 6, 2023 without meeting to discuss the grievance. We advised that we would be pursuing the matter at arbitration, and the employer responded by issuing a second grievance declination and continued to refuse to comply with the grievance process.
We filed a Section 104 application at the BC Labour Relations Board for the appointment of an arbitrator for an expedited arbitration. The Board appointed a settlement officer, Mediator Trevor Sonnes, as a preliminary step to discuss with the parties if there was any movement towards a mutually agreeable settlement on the matter.
The parties met on January 15, 2024 with the mediator, but we were unable to reach a mutually agreeable settlement with your employer.
We will now await for the mediator to conduct a report out to the vice-chair, and the appointment of an arbitrator to hear the grievance. We will keep you posted.
In solidarity,
