BC Regional Council of Carpenters – Bargaining Update #7 – Clarification on Article 7 Annual Vacation

September 13, 2022

To: All MoveUP members at BCRCC

Following the ratification meeting on September 12, 2022, you asked for further clarification on the NEW annual vacation entitlement process.

To clarify, vacation entitlements you have earned up to your anniversary date this year continues as is.  You will be prorated for the remainder of the year, after your anniversary date, a minimum of 1.25 days per month (dependent on specific members entitlements).

As of January 1, 2023, all members will receive their full allotment for the 2023 year and will also have any remaining vacation days that have already been earned and not taken.

The Employer has committed to providing each member with their current vacation allotment; however, we were unable to get this information before the closing of the vote.  Should the Employer’s interpretation be incorrect, we will address those accordingly.

For the calendar year ending December 31, 2022, your Employer will approve more carry over to 2023, than the five (5) days outlined in the collective agreement, to anyone who requests to do so.

For the year ending December 31, 2023,you will be entitled to carry over up to five (5) vacation days, to the 2024 calendar year, to be used as set out in Article 7.06.  Any requests to carry over more than the five (5) days will require the approval of the Employer.

Thank you for your support and solidarity,

Merissa Cox, Bargaining Committee Member
April Young, Union Representative and Chair
