CMBC – Thank You!

February 1, 2024

To: All MoveUP Members at CMBC

A token of our appreciation for your incredible demonstration of solidarity

WOW! MoveUP members at Coast Mountain Bus take union solidarity to the next level!

On behalf of your union’s leadership, I am so honoured to be able to share our appreciation and many thanks to you all.

Last week, we witnessed the overwhelming support that you displayed for your fellow union members at CUPE 4500 through the rain and cold. Even though this was not directly your fight, we saw how each and every one of you stood up and showed the employer that union members will not be divided.

You have not only made our union’s leadership extremely proud, but your acts of solidarity have been noticed by the entire labour movement. We have received many words of thanks and positive feedback from affiliate unions’ leadership and the officers of the BC Federation of Labour.

See this Facebook post from CUPE BC’s leadership thanking MoveUP members.

To your Job Action Committee and picket captains, thank you! This action of support would not have gone as smoothly as it did without your commitment to our members, your organizational skills, and your knowledge of the workplaces.

As a token of our gratitude, MoveUP’s Executive Board unanimously voted in favour of increasing the daily strike pay from $110 prorated rate to $200 for the picket support on Monday, January 22nd and Tuesday, January 23rd.

As a reminder, members who did their 4-hour shifts as scheduled during those two days are eligible for the picket pay.

In order to receive your cheque, all members need to log onto the Member Portal by end of day Friday, February 2nd to ensure we have your correct address on file. If you need assistance, please email membership@moveuptogether.ca and our staff can provide you with the information needed.

We know that many members are concerned about potential picketing this coming weekend (beginning February 3). We sincerely hope both parties will accept the recommendations of the Special Mediator and that the CUPE 4500 members will get a fair deal. However, in the event picket lines go back up, we will revert to the strike pay as outlined in our Constitution.

On behalf of your elected officers with gratitude and in solidarity,

Shawn Lakusta, Union Representative

Christy Slusarenko, Vice-President Combined Units

Safar Alikhani, Executive Board Transit
