Canadian Freightways-Bargaining Update #6 – Ratification Meetings/Proposal Clarification

May 17, 2019

To: All MoveUP Members at Canadian Freightways

RE:     Ratification Meetings Complete/Clarification of Pension Contributions

Ratification meetings were held over the past two weeks at various Canadian Freightways terminals.  The bargaining committee have collected the ballots and are holding them until we receive the remainder of the ballots which will be mailed in from members who were unable to attend one of the ratification meetings.  If you are one of the members that will be mailing in your ballot, and have not yet done so, please complete and send it in as soon as possible as the ballots will be counted on May 31, 2019.

We would like to clarify information provided during these meetings regarding a members’ contribution to the pension plan.  We had said that a member could either submit 4.5% or 6% to the plan and could change this amount at any time.  After further review and communication with your Employer, it should be noted that you can not move back and forth between the amounts, but you can increase from 4.5% to 6% at any time, but once that is done, you cannot reduce the amount.  We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

A bulletin will be provided to advise you of the result of the vote shortly after the ballots are counted.

In solidarity,

Lisa Main, Bargaining Committee
Lorna Lohner, Bargaining Committee
Mike Novak, Union Representative
Cheryl Popeniuk, Senior Union Representative
