Bargaining
Tree Island – Bargaining Update
May 3, 2021
To: MoveUP members at Tree Island
On April 12, 2021, the employer sent a letter to all of you encouraging you to reach out to your bargaining committee and ask us to ratify a collective agreement based on the latest offer tabled by the employer. In that letter, the employer eluded to the fact that the Teamsters had agreed to a 5 year collective agreement with wage increases of 0%, 1%, 1.25%, 2%, and 2% in each of those years, “in the best interest of the employees, customers, and the business.
Their letter failed to mention the employer’s announcement to all staff April 1, 2021, congratulating everyone for their efforts regarding increased volumes. The letter also made no mention of the fact that Q4 numbers were quite positive, resulting in increased profits for Tree Island. The most vital thing they failed to mention was: you are not Teamsters, and weren’t at their bargaining table.
At our last meeting On April 13, you voiced overwhelming support for your bargaining committee in there efforts to negotiate a fair collective agreement.
As a result of this support, and the employer’s unwillingness to budge from wage increases negotiated at a bargaining table we were not involved in, your bargaining committee has decided to ask the members for a strike mandate to back up our demands for a fair deal.
