DESCRIPTION:The MoveUP Events and Social Planning Committee is pleased to offer 3 evening’s of snowshoeing at Cypress Mountain. \nThis 3rd annual event is open to MoveUP members. Each participating member is welcome to bring one guest. \nIf you have never gone snowshoeing\, this is a great opportunity to try out this fun winter sport\, enjoy Cypress Mountain trails with a guide and to stop for a delicious chocolate fondue along the way. \n1st  Date:  Friday\, February 1\, 2019 \n2nd Date: Friday February 15\, 2019 \n3rd Date: Friday February 22\, 2019 \nTime: Arrival time 6:30 p.m. (tour begins at 7:00 p.m.) \nLocation: Cypress Mountain Resort\, 6000 Cypress Bowl Rd\, West Vancouver – At the Cypress Mountain Hollyburn Nordic Area. \nTicket price is $25 per person and includes: \n. DESCRIPTION:Santa will be there\, along with his elves\, for balloon animals and face painting. \nThis year we will have two breakfast seatings – one at 8:30 a.m. and the second at 11:30 a.m. \nDue to the high number of expected registrants each member may invite one adult family member and up to four children from their immediate family\, ages 12 and under. \nRegistration donation for this event is $15 for each member.  Registration includes one family adult guest and up to 4 children\, 12 years of age and under. \nEach child guest is asked to bring a new\, unwrapped toy to be donated to the BC Federation of Labour annual Christmas dinner for residents of the downtown eastside community. \nYour registration fee of $15 will be donated to the lower mainland food bank to help families in need. \n     Date:         Saturday\, December 8\, 2018 \n     Where:    Firefighters’ Hall\, 6515 Bonsor Avenue\, Burnaby\, BC \n     Time:       First Seating – 8:30 am to 10:00 am  /  Second Seating – 11:30 am to 1:00 pm \nHow to Register: We have set up two Eventbrite registration links so you can choose which seating you wish to attend. DESCRIPTION:MoveUP’s Environment Committee invites members to a nature walk through Burns Bog to learn about the history and importance of this unique bog ecosystem. \nThere will only be availability of 2 tours of 20 people each for this amazing event – Saturday September 15\, 2018 – 2 tour departure times – 1 leaving at 12:30 p.m. and the 2nd leaving at 12:45 p.m.  Tours depart from the Delta Nature Reserve at 10388 Nordel Court\, Delta\, B.C.  The tours generally take 2 hours but can run up to 2.5 hours on occasion. \nTickets are $7.00 each and you can click HERE to purchase.

SUMMARY:Labour Day at the PNE
DESCRIPTION:Members and their families are invited to celebrate Labour Day with members from other unions at the Pacific National Exhibition.  We will be supplying guests free admission\, MoveUP water bottles and a $5.00 Concession voucher.  Tickets will be $5.00 each (up to 5 tickets in total).  Tickets will go on sale on August 14th at 5 p.m..  Please click HERE at that time to purchase your tickets.  Guests will be required to pick up their tickets before the rally at the Pacific Coliseum between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. – please note this is the ONLY time that you can get your passes into the PNE.  The Rally starts at 10:00 a.m. and ends before the PNE opens at 11:00 a.m. to allow members to get into the PNE before the general public and avoid lineups. This event is for MoveUP members and their guests only.  Due to the nature of this event we anticipate that tickets will sell out quickly. \nThere will be more details sent to you in the week prior to the event.  If you have any questions click here. \nLabour Day as a holiday was inspired by trade unions’ efforts to improve workers’ rights. Its origins can be traced back to 1872\, when the Toronto Trades Assembly organized Canada’s first significant labour demonstration\, with the goal of securing a nine-hour work day. The strikes proved that there was power in workers standing together; alone\, people risked discipline or layoff for drawing attention to low wages\, long hours\, or health and safety issues. \nEnormous public support and spinoff demonstrations in other cities led Sir John A. Macdonald\, Canada’s first Prime Minister\, to promise to repeal Canadian laws against trade unions. With unions no longer outlawed\, this led to the 1883 founding of the organization that would become the Canadian Labour Congress. In 1894\, Labour Day was declared a national holiday. \nLabour Day is a time to celebrate the many contributions working people\, through their unions\, make to building communities and a better country. The work unions do today to make life better for workers\, their families and communities\, is no less important and requires the same type of commitment to standing together.
