Yellow Cabs Bargaining Update

January 26, 2023

To: MoveUP Members at Yellow Cabs

Your bargaining committee met with the employer on January 25, 2023. The parties discussed the industry’s short-term and long-term outlook. Currently, more and more taxi employers have implemented various cost saving measures, including group layoffs and cloud-based dispatching system.

Your bargaining committee had a lengthy discussion with the employer about your job security. The employer presented information to your bargaining committee on high absenteeism and shift refusals, which have directly resulted in its operational reliance on oversea call centre agents. The employer is conducting a shift schedule overhaul with an intent to re-assess proper staffing needs for each shift and, potentially, introduce a longer rest period between shifts. Conversations about these topics remain ongoing. Your bargaining committee is committed to advocating for your job security.

The parties made significant progress on non-monetary proposals in the initial bargaining sessions. At this time, the parties are looking to schedule additional bargaining dates in the month of February 2023. We will keep you informed following those sessions. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me via email at achen@moveuptogether.ca.

In solidarity
