Steward, Committee and Member Training Webinar  The Why and How of First Nations Territorial Acknowledgements

September 30, 2020

To: MoveUP Job Stewards, Executive Councillors and Executive Board Members

We often hear or participate in First Nations Territorial Acknowledgements in our meetings; however, we may not understand why or when we should do them. To help stewards, committees and members know why we do them, where the terms we use come from and how to do them with authenticity, our union will host a 90-minute webinar to help you become more familiar with this important practice.

Join our President, David Black, for an evening discussion on Territorial Acknowledgements and their importance to our union and our society.

You will learn:

  • The historical background of territorial acknowledgements.
  • The difference between unceded and ceded territories and why it is important.
  • Why we mention integrate Territorial Acknowledgments at meetings, and how can we incorporate this practice into all our meetings with authenticity.
  • To practice what you learn in small groups and to ask questions.

Participants will receive a certificate confirming they have participated in this webinar.

Date: Thursday, November 5, 2020
Time: 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Register link: Register here by October 30
Zoom login: You will receive this by email on November 2.
