FortisBC – Telework Agreement – Agreed to Until March 31, 2021
January 4, 2021
To: All MoveUP Members at FortisBC, FortisBC Energy Inc. & FortisBC-CSC
On December 8, 2020, your Union finally received the Company’s agreement on the terms and conditions of the working conditions for its members while working from home. It is required to have the terms and conditions of employment of our members extended to include their homes and, apart from the FortisBC-CSC collective agreement, there is no language in the current FortisBC Inc. or the current FortisBC Energy Inc. collective agreements that provides for this.
The Telework Agreements were first introduced to the Company in April 2020, and through various discussions and versions, the Company and your Union have agreed to a Telework Agreement that will be in place until March 31, 2021, with the option for renewal. Please see the Telework Agreement here.
Despite our efforts, the Company still maintains its position on not issuing T2200’s to its employees, nor are they prepared to compensate employees for expenses incurred for WIFI, electricity, heating, or any other increases in home expenses.
Please note that on December 15, 2020, the Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, Minister of National Revenue, provided information regarding how the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will allow Canadians working from home with the ability to claim home office expenses on their personal income tax return for the 2020 tax year.
“Employees who worked from home more than 50% of the time over a period of at least four consecutive weeks in 2020 due to COVID-19 will now be eligible to claim home office expenses deductions for 2020.:” (News Release – December 15, 2020)
We recommend that you contact a tax specialist or contact the CRA for more details.
