FortisBC Inc. / FortisBC Energy Inc. – Amalgamation Discussion Update #8

January 24, 2020

To: All MoveUP Members at FortisBC Inc. & FortisBC Energy Inc.

We write to let you know that the Union’s FEI/FBC Amalgamation Committee met on Thursday, January 23, 2020 and discussed the document that has been drafted as a result of approximately a year’s worth of meetings and discussions with the Company.

The Parties entered into these discussions almost a year ago, with the intent of reaching an agreement through a collaborative approach to draft a collective agreement that would bring both bargaining units under one collective agreement, under a Common Employer structure.

The efforts of your Amalgamation committee have provided for a document that will now be referred to as the “Amalgamated Collective Agreement”.  It has been determined and decided by your Amalgamation Committee that, at this time, it is best suited for the Amalgamated Collective Agreement to be shared with the Electric and Gas memberships.

We are hoping that this will provide the membership with an understanding of what the terms and conditions of the document will entail and an opportunity to ask questions regarding its contents, prior to voting on whether or not to accept the document, under a Common Employer structure.

We are currently preparing the document for distribution along with times and dates for future membership meetings across the province.  As soon as we have finalized those arrangements and the voting process, we will release future bulletins to provide that information.
