FortisBC CSC, FortisBC Inc & FortisBC Energy Inc. – Adjournment Consent Award Extended to May 31, 2020

As you may recall, we wrote to you last month to let you know that the Parties had reached an agreement regarding the necessity of obtaining medical documentation from any medical professional or health service provider, in relation to or as a condition of obtaining paid sick leave entitlements until April 30, 2020.
The Parties recognized and agreed that to be asking for medical documentation during this time would put an unnecessary burden on the medical system and that staying at home was the best action to take. This meant that an employee would not be required to go to their doctor and get a note to substantiate an absence associated to sick leave.
However, the consent award does provide for some guidance to the Parties, if need be and in exceptional circumstances, to work together and find solutions if an employee would need medical documentation for a specific purpose, such as certain accommodations and/or return -to work to name a few.
We received confirmation from the BC Labour Board that they are in agreement with extending the timeline of the Consent Award to May 31, 2020. The Consent Award can be found here.
