Avis – Budget merger

September 18, 2019

To: All MoveUP members at Avis

Since the Budget brand in British Columbia was acquired by Avis on April 1st, MoveUP has been investigating the situation and making sure your rights are protected. Some integration has been happening and further integration will continue in the near future.   This may include members being asked to perform new duties. In some cases such as the service centre, it may mean your work location will change.

MoveUP is working with our legal counsel to protect your superior wages, benefits, and conditions. Our collective agreement with Avis is stronger than the one at Budget, and we will defend those rights.  The merger of two companies often raises a number of unforeseen circumstances. We’ve dealt with these issues before and are hard at work to get the best results for all our members. In addition to strategizing with our legal team, we have been making issues and concerns known to management and we’ve been at the Labour Relations Board asking for your voices to be heard.

We’ll have more updates for you as this work progresses.  At this time, we need to make sure our members are not adversely impacted by the changes. If you are asked to work alongside any Budget Rental Car employees or to perform work normally done by Budget employees, please do as you are instructed by management and advise a Job Steward or myself as soon as possible. We can explain your rights and raise any issues with management on your behalf.

As always, please feel free to contact your Union if you have any questions or concerns about any work related issue.
