AMENDED: A message from Vice President Rysa Kronebusch

To: All MoveUP members at FortisBC Inc. and FortisBC Energy Inc.


Amended to reflect the correct end date of the collective agreement – June 30, 2023.

I wanted to touch base with you regarding the recent decision from the Labour Relations Board (LRB) to approve the common employer application submitted by FortisBC Energy Inc. and FortisBC Inc.

After a long process, the LRB made its ruling on November 16, declaring FortisBC Energy Inc. (Gas) and FortisBC Inc. (Electric) as a common employer and accepted the employer’s submission of the Amalgamated Collective Agreement as the basis to establish the terms and condition of employment for the MoveUP members. Our union did submit a rebuttal against this application but ultimately, the LRB’s decision was to side with the employer’s application.

I would like to reassure members that MoveUP will continue to advocate on behalf of our member’s rights and entitlements as afforded to them in this Amalgamated Collective Agreement.

This agreement will be in effect until June 30, 2023. Prior to this date we will begin the bargaining process.  I would advise the membership to keep watch for the bargaining survey we will send prior to the commencement of bargaining to voice what concerns you as members may have.

On another note, 2020 has been a year we will never forget. COVID – 19 has turned our worlds upside down!  There have been co-workers at Fortis test positive. We at MoveUP are thinking of you. We hope for a speedy recovery with no long lasting effects. There are some, including myself, who have had family members test positive for COVID. Then with Christmas fast approaching the possibility of not gathering with our family members is quite real.  I know this will be extremely hard for us all, I video chat daily with my youngest grandchild as they are having a very hard time not getting hugs from me!

We all look forward to 2021, hoping for the vaccine so we can move towards that new normal. I believe we are all in this together and together we will get through it.  Please remember on a daily basis to review and follow the Provincial Health Officer’s guidelines, wear a mask or face shield, be vigilant about social distancing protocols at work and in public spaces, wash your hands for at the very least 20 seconds.

Please remember to reach out if needed. Many workplaces have access to Employee and Family Assistance Programs (EFAP). If available to you, we suggest you reach out to your EFAP if you are having difficulties during this time.  There are also additional mental health resources here:
