2018 MoveUP Dragon Boat Team

January 19, 2018

To: All MoveUP members in the lower mainland at home and allowable work - Please Post

The MoveUP Multicultural Committee will be registering a team in the 2018 Concord Pacific Vancouver Dragon Boat Festival, which will be held from June 22 to 24th.

Dragon boating has a long history and is believed to have been started to commemorate the life and death of Qu Yuan, a famous Chinese poet, minister and scholar who lived during the Warring States period in Ancient China.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Vancouver Dragon Boat Festival. More than 200 teams including many from other countries compete during this three-day festival.

Prior dragon boating experience is not required. Team members will be provided with a life jacket and paddle.

We will be arranging for four coached practices, expected to take place over April and May, in the weeks leading up to the festival. Exact dates will be confirmed at a later time, but practices will take place at False Creek on a weeknight from approximately 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Festival Date: June 22 – 24, 2018

Location: Creekside Community Center, False Creek, Vancouver

How to register:

If you are interested in joining this year’s team, click here to register. There is a $50 fee which will be refunded in full should you attend three of the four practices and race with the team over the entire festival weekend.

As a registered team member you have access to the festival grounds – great food and lots of fun!

Deadline to register is Friday, March 9th.

Interested in volunteering?

We are looking for a member to take a team leadership role as well as volunteers to staff the team table at the festival weekend. We will provide all necessary support to the team leader. There is no registration fee for non-paddling volunteers.

If you have any questions, please contact jbanfield@moveuptogether.ca.

Come and have fun with the MoveUP team!
