IUOE Local 115: Learn, Grow and Lead by Becoming a Job Steward with MoveUP

September 20, 2022

To: All MoveUP members at IUOE Local 115

Our job stewards occupy some of the most important roles in our union. Stewards provide workplace leadership and information, insight and understanding to the staff and elected representatives at the MoveUP office. They offer support and guidance to their co-workers, keep little problems from becoming big ones, and help make the workplace function smoothly.

Becoming a job steward is a rewarding experience. It’s an opportunity to help and support your colleagues, while learning valuable skills. As a steward you will learn about your and your co-workers’ rights, and how to stand up to make sure members in your workplace are treated fairly. MoveUP offers regular opportunities for training to learn all the tools needed, which includes conflict resolution and a deeper understanding of your collective agreement.

We’re looking for people we can train to be top-notch workplace advocates. We want to make sure you and your co-workers get all the info and support you need, and the best way to do that is with a strong and healthy group of stewards in all communities, in every department.

Please read our online member guide “What is a Job Steward and How do I Become One?” and consider putting your name forward.

If you are interested in becoming a steward or learning more about the role, please email Vice-President Christy Slusarenko at cslusarenko@moveuptogether.ca.

In Solidarity,

Daniel Storms, Union Representative
Christy Slusarenko, Vice President – Combined Units
