As you have likely heard, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has heralded that Monday, September 19, the day of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, will be a federal holiday.
Premier John Horgan has also declared Monday, September 19, a day of remembrance this year to align with the federal decision to mark the Queen’s funeral with a holiday.
Due to our federal holiday recognition language in Article 13, September 19, 2022 will be a paid day off for employees normally entitled to provincial or federal statutory holidays. Your employer has sent us notice that they agree with this interpretation of the plain language of your collective agreement. As with other statutory holidays, essential services will continue to operate in places they are required.
