Municipal Elections matter! Make sure you get out to vote!

September 14, 2022

To: MoveUP Members

On Saturday, October 15, British Columbians will head to the polls to vote in the municipal elections. This is your opportunity to choose who represents your interests in your community.

In conjunction with the Canadian Labour Congress and your local labour council, MoveUP proudly supports the labour councils’ endorsed candidates.

Shortly, you will receive a poll card with the labour council endorsed candidates in your area that you can take with you when you vote. You can also find a list of all the endorsed candidates listed here.

To find a full list of all candidates in your municipality, please refer to your local government’s website.

Why municipal governments matter

Municipal governments play an important role in our everyday lives. They are responsible for providing local services, including important infrastructures such as drinking water, roads, fire protection, sewage, trash collection, and more.

It is important to have progressive voices in municipal governments because municipalities will play a role in making decisions that affect the industries where MoveUP members work, including public transit, utilities, infrastructure construction, and public insurance.

Electing progressive governments at the municipal level means the difference between expanding public services and securing jobs in our communities, versus seeing services cut and jobs lost.

Key voting information

General voting day is Saturday, October 15. Advance voting opportunities are also available. Check your local government’s website for more information. Click here for voter eligibility information.

Thank you for doing your part for your community and helping to elect a progressive government that will support working families.

In solidarity,

Lori Mayhew, President
Rysa Kronebusch & Annette Toth, Co-Chairs, Political Action Committee
