Nine Day Fortnight Change – Confirm Your Specific Situation this Week

January 6, 2021

To: All MoveUP members at ICBC

The change of year is often one that many of us look forward to, but let’s face it, 2021 will hold many changes for all of us, both at work and at home. For those staff who work a Nine Day Fortnight (NDFN) there may be a change to your day off, starting next week. In the last round of bargaining, we agreed that the day off could be either Friday or Monday. You would have bid on your day off last fall, prior to your vacation bid. In bargaining, the changeover date was agreed to be January 4, 2021, however in October, ICBC advised us that the changeover date would need to be moved later by one week to January 11, 2021.

The reason for this change was to be sure no one was impacted on their pay. Since January 4 was midway through a pay period, changing people’s scheduled day off to a different week could have resulted in some folks missing one day of work, (which would have impacted their pay), and possibly others would have to work 10 days, instead of nine, resulting in overtime. To make sure no one was adversely impacted and it be fair for everyone, we agreed to advance the changeover date by one week to January 11.

Please double check your schedule to be sure you know which day is your scheduled day off. We don’t want anyone inadvertently missing work or showing up when they should be enjoying a day off.

Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year!

In solidarity,

Annette Toth, Vice President
Kevin Smyth, Senior Union Representative
