Avis Budget Group Layoff and WorkShare Update – April 9, 2020

April 9, 2020

To: All MoveUP members at Avis

As the employer proceeds with WorkShare and layoffs, MoveUP is working to ensure that your interests are represented and the employer meets its obligations.

Your Union has been in constant contact to address some outstanding issues related to the WorkShare and layoff process.  Extensive discussions and a conference call were held to address the specific concerns of the shuttling group who are for the most part classified as part-time.  Your Union focused on ensuring that MoveUP members receive what we are entitled to.

We have been asked about the WorkShare code that is required for the online process of making an application.  The code should arrive within the next two weeks and once we have that information we will pass it along as soon as possible.  There is currently a backlog at WorkShare due to the volume of applications and this is causing a delay.

Records of Employment (ROE’s) will indicate the reason for layoff as code (A) shortage of work.  The Employment Insurance website specifically asks employers to use code (A) if the layoff is related to COVID-19 and that should provide for faster processing.

If you have questions about applying for Employment Insurance, please refer to MoveUP bulletin #4.  The bulletins are also available on the MoveUP website.

In solidarity,

Shawn Lakusta, Union Representative
Christy Slusarenko, Vice-President of Combined Units
