CMBC – COVID19 – Confirmed case at Burnaby Transit Centre

April 2, 2020

To: All MoveUP Members at CMBC

MoveUP learned late on Wednesday April 1, 2020 that the Fraser Health Authority advised CMBC that a person with a confirmed case of COVID-19 was in the Bull Pen at the Burnaby Transit Centre on March 19 & 20, 2020.

Notices from Fraser Health have been posted throughout that worksite. MoveUP strongly advises all members at the BTC to heed the advice in that notice, a copy of which is attached.

Your Union is in daily conversations with CMBC about the COVID-19 pandemic. Our utmost priority is to ensure our members are safe in the workplace. MoveUP is working to get confirmation from the Employer that the entire bull-pen area has been disinfected/sanitized and that the frequency and intensity of cleaning is increased at all work sites. MoveUP is still gathering information about the COVID-19 case at the Port Coquitlam Depot, more information to follow.

MoveUP members can take steps to protect one another. Everyone MUST wash their hands and use sanitizing wipes on any objects, surfaces, etc, that are touched by co-workers in between cleaning schedules. All members can ensure that social distancing protocols are followed at work.  If you aren’t able to practice social distancing, please report to your manager and your local OH&S representative.  MoveUP is working hard to ensure that our OH&S Committees are activated and well informed about COVID-19 and that all employers meet their responsibility to provide a healthy and safe workplace during the pandemic.

MoveUP will keep members advised as we learn more about this situation. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to your Union Representative Parm Sandhar or our WCB and OH&S Specialist Niki Schnurr.
