Union Challenges Attendance Management Program

Wednesday, June 18, 2014
To: All MoveUP members at Canadian Freightways

Your union has filed a policy grievance contesting the company’s implementation of its “Attendance Management Program” (AMP), details of which were sent out to employees and the union last week.

MoveUP believes that AMP unfairly punishes workers who are sick or disabled. We also believe that AMP pressures employees to authorize the company to communicate directly with an employee’s doctors, allowing the company to access personal and sensitive medical information to which it is not entitled.

Your union has informed the company that it believes AMP is discriminatory and in violation of the collective agreement and employee rights under applicable privacy, human rights and labour laws. However, the company has refused our request to review the program, and has chosen to unilaterally implement the program without consulting the union.

We’re here to protect your rights. Please consult a job steward or the union office if you are asked to participate in an interview under AMP or sign a medical authorization of any kind.

In solidarity,

Tony Geluch
