Job Selection

If you decide to apply for an internal job posting, it’s important that you are treated fairly. If you have the skills required to be the successful candidate in the job selection process, here’s how you can make the best of the opportunity.

How to Prepare for Internal Job Selection/Interview

Your Resume:

  • Education: include both internal and external training and courses.
  • List all volunteer activities.
  • Include details on current position and all positions relevant to the job.

Interview:

  • Prepare for the interview by reading the job description and anticipating interview questions.
  • Answer all questions fully. Do not assume the interviewer knows all your work history.

The best approach is always to make the best impression in the application and interview processes.

What to do if you're unsuccessful:

• Phone the hiring manager to find out the reason you were not selected. If you are not satisfied with their response, talk to your job steward or union rep.

• If you are the senior candidate, you and your steward can file a job selection grievance.

• The grievance must be filed within 15 calendar days of you receiving written notification that you did not get the position.
