Burnaby English Language Centre - Expression of Interest: Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee

To: MoveUP Members at Burnaby English Language Centre

MoveUP is looking for one more volunteer to fill the vacancies currently available on our Occupational Health & Safety Committee. Job Steward Chris Bey has already volunteered and been appointed.  The two committee members would serve alongside two employer representatives and work to ensure that any health and safety related concerns in the workplace are addressed.

The committee will be responsible for meeting monthly to identify and make recommendations that correct unsafe and unhealthy work environments. Per the collective agreement, and the Workers Compensation Act, time spent on approved committee activities and meetings shall be without loss of pay.

As a trained OH&S representative, you would conduct worksite inspections and participate in any investigations or inquiries at the workplace, as well as represent the union at the joint committee level. In addition, the Workers Compensation Act entitles committee members to eight (8) hours of educational leave each year paid for by the employer.
